At one time, Pagerank was considered the ultimate score card that measured the relevance and importance of a web page, but today, it has lost its flare and many SEO enthusiasts disregard Pagerank value. It has been more than 6 months since the last Pagerank update and Google, on average, updates the Toolbar every 3 months or 4 times per year.
If Pagerank goes away, advertisers will need to shift gears (something they should of done and long time ago) and focus on natural, referral and direct traffic to a given website.

I’ll go with Re-engineer Pagerank with emphasis on value and timely updates.
Jonathan,
I have to agree as it has been a staple for a long time, why get rid of it.
I say re-engineer it to include other values than just links – maybe consider overall social sharing statistics, frequency the page / site is updated, etc.
Kristi,
Not a bad idea, but I would like to see traffic from search, article post frequency (as you mentioned already), level of trust and authority.
I agree with Kristi.
It is interesting to see that of the five people that voted they all voted for “Re-engineer Pagerank with emphasis on value and timely updates”. It would be good to see the result after a lot more votes.
I agree with the consensus. I am frustrated with the current limitations of Google PR and wish that it was re-engineered and/or updated with some regularity.
Mmmm PR is obviously with a foot on the grave but I must admit I loved being aware of it, check the toolbar once in a while and move things around. It definitelly helped me with my websites.
I know this is off topic but what the HECK happened today? We had a bunch of keywords within the first 3 pages, with 2-3 on the first page, and all of a sudden today, BAM, all of our keywords disappeared, GONE, not even within the first ten pages.
I’ve heard google has made some tweaks etc. does ANYONE have any info on what is going on?
John,
It could be what is usually called a Google dance. They could be updating or did your site get put into the sandbox? Make sure you still see pages indexed to be sure.
We do still have pages that come up.
If you search “dogloverstore” we come up,, so we are still indexed.
They may be updating but does that mean we got penalized? We were doing so well for many tough keywords like “dog figurines” we were spot 11, “dog ornaments” spot 21 “dog decor” spot 7 … those are just a few.
Now all of them are gone … :-(
I’m looking forward to our next index to see if that changes anything.
Any advice on what it could be?
PR has worked in the past but the web is getting more complicated. Something else should be developed to better assess websites for quality without necessarily relying upon the very manual (and often slow) process of waiting for social networking links to show up.
The web is evolving and it is evolving fast.
Google PR must evolve as well. There are a lot of things they should consider.
My vote: Re-engineering of PR!
