Jay,
Security Tool Virus is a nasty one and by the amount of search queries on Google since October 2009, it is still a major issue. The virus is still going strong.
My husband got this 2 weeks ago on his laptop…I just got it today. I am extremely careful of sites I go to and rarely go to anything besides my email, and a few work sites. The only common denominator between our usage is Yahoo mail. So I am thinking this is attaching itself to yahoo mail somehow. About 6 months ago I got a similar virus, but totally different if you know what I mean.
The best way I have found to delete these viruses are to move all your folders (like music, documents, pictures) into a new user on your computer. Then once you have everything moved over delete that user login. That was super easy and deleted the virus. It seems to only attach itself to one login, even if there are multiples on the computer.
I meant to say that 6 months ago I got a similar virus from yahoo mail.
Rosey,
If you don’t know who the sender is, it’s best to delete the email.
Rosey,
There are two variants of this virus – System Tool and Security Tool. These two viruses are very close in how they infiltrate a system.
