I’ve wondered about this and the registry cleaners also. They come off like a free download, do a fake scan, tell you there are 1137 problems, and then offer to fix them all for $49.
Jonathan,
I usually catch these and share it with all my friends. I have your back!
People would just do anything for a hard sell. Working in a IT centre really got used of seeing various kind of tricks that so-called spyware/virus removal tool request users to download for ‘free’ initially. Later, it’ll scan and request for payment in order to upgrade. Pretty nasty. Thanks for sharing the info, will be on the lookout.

Ching,
Thank you for the comment! There are too many people looking for a quick buck illegally.
Its sometimes pretty diificult to understand which software to use,
i mostly trust the big companies like norton,
they charge you but atleast provide quality in work and security
It’s always smart to go with well known companies.
My previous web hosting company owner was recently hooked up by the Washington Attorney General and Microsoft for creating software just like this, the hosting company was Alpha Red, I forget the name of the fake software company.
I will pass this on, no sense in more people being burned by this kind of crap.
Johnny,
These companies are always on my radar, glad I could hep.
