In 2009, there was more Malware created than the previous 20 years combined. What does that mean? It means that having just a standalone antivirus program will not stop all or most attacks from infiltrating your computer.
Today, more security firms who create antivirus and Malware protection are offering a much improved way to defend against attacks by combining multi-functional security suites that address not only viruses, but all types of attacks.
According to PCWorld.com – Almost all the security suites we tested this year also include some form of antirootkit technology. (Rootkits–a kind of stealth Malware used to hide infections–were once the concern only of big businesses, but they have gradually become more commonplace.)
Norton Internet Security 2010 takes the top ranking thanks to its excellent Malware detection. Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is a close second, and is followed by a competitive field of eight other suites according to AVTest.com in cooperation with PCWorld.com.
Top 5 Internet Security Suites of 2010
- Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010: Norton Internet Security 2010 is our top-scoring security suite of 2010, thanks to its very good detection of new Malware.
- Kaspersky Lab Internet Security 2010: Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 makes an excellent choice thanks to its very good Malware detection, swift performance, and good interface.
- AVG Internet Security 9.0: AVG Internet Security 9 provides strong protection against Malware, but its interface needs improvement.
- PC Tools Internet Security 2010: PC Tools Internet Security 2010 is greatly improved over last year’s version, with better traditional Malware detection augmenting its strong behavioral protection, but it lacks some features common in competing suites.
- BitDefender Internet Security 2010: BitDefender Internet Security 2010 offers decent protection at a great price, but its detection of brand new Malware lags behind.

Congratulations to Symantec Corporation!
I will always, always support Kaspersky over the rest because of its ability to identify and block malicious code on websites before it can harm your machine.
Kristi,
In combination with my security suite I also use the mywot add-on for Firefox.
I will also definitely try MyWot addon for firefox. I see that avast made it to number 6. I’ve tried it before, it’s also good.
Andrew,
I highly recommend the mywot add-on.
Thanks for this post . But according to AV-Comparatives.org (http://www.av-comparatives.org) malware test result, G Data takes the top ranking.
In the latest test with PCWorld.com Norton Security took the overall score.
Hey Frank, I use Kaspersky Lab Internet Security 2010. this is my 2nd year with Kaspersky and I am extremely pleased with them. Find them much less intrusive than Norton. I also use MyWot (at your recommendation), they have helped me avoid some potential problems for sure. Last but not least I use Advanced System Care (I think this was also at your recommendation), it’s great.
My advice to everyone – listen to Frank, he’s the security man!
Jonathan,
I love the feedback and you know I am always looking for a treasure to share.
Thank you again!
I use AVIRA Internet Security 2010. Avira is next to kaspersky I think. Avira blocks malwares coming on opening any site online. It also disable autorun.inf kinds of pendrive worms too.
You can try it too. Also daily update is just 2 seconds only.
I use Avast home edition and WOT browser add-on and I’m happy with this combination.
Arafat,
It goes well together just like peanut butter and jelly. :)
Wow, AVG number 3. I love AVG…..
Thanks for the information!
Right now, I’m using Norton Internet Security 2010 along with WOT. I’ve had severe problems with Norton in the past especially with the 2008 version but the 2009 version was much much better and 2010 is even better, at malware detection and performance.
The best in my opinion is ESET NOD32. I think Kaspersky is so slow.
Im surprised Microsoft Security Essentials is not mentioned. I use it everyday and it works well.
