Have you been notified by Yahoo due to suspicious activity on your email account? I am sure you have and it’s becoming far to frequent in the last year. I have two accounts and I get notifications at least every other month about usual or suspicious activity on my email account. I have yet to get this type of notification on my Gmail account (Google Email).
Has Yahoo created a playground for hackers because its security is easy to penetrate? It seems certain that Yahoo is losing its battle against online crime with all the email account breaches this past year.
How can I stay safe using Yahoo as my email provider?
- Do not use Yahoo email for banking notifications or password resets
- Do not share personable identifiable information using Yahoo email
- Do not respond to unsolicited email as this confirms that your account is active
- Change your password on a monthly basis and make sure your password is at least 8 characters mixed with uppercase letters, special characters and numbers
- Do not access your email on unsecured wireless networks
If you follow the tips above you will make it harder for hackers to steal your account information.
If you need to interact with your bank, it best to do it over the phone or across a secured network. I use Gmail mostly for banking and other business transactions such as online purchases and paying bills online.
Also, if you are using a smart device to interact with banking, online bill pay or other business transaction, make sure it’s across a secured connection.
Be safe because the next breach could impact your life!
