When choosing a web hosting company, make sure the company only focuses on web hosting and not an array of services outside of web hosting like Yahoo. A friend of mine needed assistance to setup a WordPress blog on Yahoo’s small business web hosting and I was amazed that such a simple WordPress installation can be so difficult.Poor Web Hosting

Pitfalls of using Yahoo Hosting;

  1. You can’t install WordPress in the root directory.
  2. You are forced to remove the preloaded Yahoo plug-ins.
  3. Setting up a MySQL database is a nightmare.
  4. The WordPress version is not up to date on the auto install.
  5. Support is non-existent.

If you are looking for a host company, I recommend BlueHost, DreamHost, Hostgator or Aplus. These companies are only focused on web hosting and they do a great job at it. I am currently with BlueHost and have been for more than 3 years and I am pleased with the performance, support, tools and pricing. I was a customer of Dreamhost and Aplus and both companies offer competitive pricing and superior support. I left both of these companies because I out grew their share hosting, which is a good problem.

BlueHost offers the following for $6.95 paid annually;

  • Unlimited Domain Hosting
  • Unlimited GB Hosting Space
  • Unlimited GB File Transfer
  • Unlimited E-mail Accounts

  • Secure Shell, SSL, FTP, Stats
  • CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL

Stay away from Yahoo Small Business Hosting if you want to avoid frustration and anxiety.
