pope-benedictThe holy of holiest takes a plunge into new media! The Vatican will soon have its own channel on the video sharing site YouTube where the Catholic faithful or the curious will be able to see Pope Benedict or Church events, a Vatican source said on Saturday.

So now I can watch mass on YouTube and still get Sunday dinner ready! Though this all sounds good and dandy I think being digitally connected has a lesser meaning than being in Church.

The details of the accord are due to be presented on Friday at a news conference attended by Vatican officials as well as Henrique de Castro, managing director of media solutions for Google, which owns YouTube.

The initiative will involve Google, the Vatican Television Center and Vatican Radio.

The Vatican opened up its website, www.vatican.va, in 1995.

This will allow many Catholics to see the Pope conveniently from their computer and get the latest from the Vatican.
