A real Jaws story has appeared in the same waters where the movie Jaws was filmed. The movie was filmed in Martha’s Vineyard, though the actual town was called Amity Harbor – which is located in Amityville, NY. I lived in Amityville from 1999 to 2003. The water located on the south shore of Long Island is known as the Great South Bay.

Just like the movie, the unusual sightings also put an abrupt damper on summer’s final holiday weekend and evoked memories of the Great White Shark that terrorized swimmers in Jaws.

Five Cape Cod beaches were closed to swimmers Sunday for Labor Day weekend after scientists spotted two more great white sharks – bringing the total to four.

Officials at North Beach, Lighthouse Beach, South Beach and Hardings Beach in Chatham and Nauset Beach in Orleans hung red “no swimming” signs that were in effect through today.

The Great White Sharks are between 8 and 10 feet long. These Sharks are much smaller than the robotic Shark that appeared in Jaws that measured over 20 feet in length.

Great White Sharks are not known to swim in Northern waters, but this year, the waters are at the warmest temperatures in 130 years. This explains why these Sharks are this far north.

I am guessing they won’t need to hire another Quint for these Sharks.
