Comcast and NetZero have agreed to block access to bulletin boards and Web sites that distribute child pornography. The only question I have, is why did this take so long? Do either of these large corporations care for our children? No matter what, I will no longer be a customer of Comcast.
The companies are the latest Internet service providers to sign onto Cuomo’s code of conduct, which requires the companies to restrict access by their customers to Web sites and newsgroups – or public bulletin boards where they can upload or download files – that have been identified as sites that disseminate child pornography.
“Today’s agreements with Comcast and NetZero will deliver another blow to the despicable online child porn industry,” Cuomo said. “I commend the companies for working with my office to aggressively eradicate online child pornography and strongly urge all outstanding Internet service providers across New York and the nation to get on board.”
Last week, Cuomo threatened to sue Comcast if it didn’t agree to the code.
Verizon Inc. (VZ), Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC), Sprint Nextel Corp. (S), AT&T Inc. (T) and Time Warner Inc.’s (TWX) America Online unit have all previously signed the code of conduct.
At least some companies have common sense.
Now if someone will kill limewire. . . . . .
