There are many great rockers and guitar virtuosos, but there’s one man that is far more superior and dubbed “Not Of This Earth”. Joe Satriani is a technological guitar virtuoso that is awe inspiring. The sounds that are generated from his collection of Ibanez guitars are far beyond our galaxy and imagination.

I was introduced to Joe’s music back in 1992. I was in J&R Music World in New York City and I ask the man behind the counter – who is that playing? – Joe Satriani he replied. I asked what song and CD is it from? And he said – his latest called “Extremist”. Of course I purchased a copy and out the door I went. I played that CD everyday until I my ears bleed.

I truly love instrumentals and for good reason. I can have my own interpretation of the song that puts me at a time and place in my life. With lyrics you kind of lose that as it’s the artist providing you their feeling and story behind the song.

One of my favorite licks is Cool #9, because it has a blues sound that just takes it to the next level. There are many other songs I like such as Flying in a Blue Dream, Rubina, Love Thing, and many of what G3 produced.

I am very excited that Joe is coming to Chicago in October 8th and playing at the Chicago Theater. I have been privileged to see Joe 6 times in 3 different cities, New York, Las Vegas and now Chicago.

Thank you Joe for sharing!

Special thanks goes to my friend Susie from Soul-to-Soul for sketching an awesome drawing of Joe. You can see the drawing here.

I also want to thank Buck (Susie’s Husband) for being so cool and for the Cactus Live CD. I am going to play that all weekend! Check out Buck’s new blog site, though we had to twist his arm, he finally caved.
