Though not officially announced, it is highly anticipated that Chairman of the FCC, Kevin J. Martin, will in all likelihood support the merger of the two satellite radio giants XM and Sirius.

Both of these two companies offer an extensive line-up of hi-fidelity (5.1 surround-sound) content with no commercials, no censorship, and a diversity of programming that should have something for everyone.

Having been a Sirius customer before, and now having the programming on my television through my satellite provider, I’ve often enjoyed the music and news channels they provide. I had canceled my Sirius subscription before because the setup looked ugly in my car and replacing my stereo for an in-dash unit was simply unacceptable.

HD Radio is also being rolled out around the country, offering FREE high-definition audio and extra content like artist information and downloads through a one-time purchase of a high-def capable unit for your car. Your favorite radio station may already offer their programming in high definition.

Which would you prefer: a monthly subscription to over 100 channels of content, or a one-time purchase to receive your local stations in high-def for free? Do you still listen to radio, or is your portable music player or CD player or even a tape deck still your source of music for travel? Anyone out there still have an 8-track in their car?
